It was to be a nine hole round today. Got off to a bad start with a triple bogey on the first hole of the Diamond Course at Discovery Bay, Hong Kong. At least better than Phil Mickelson’s quintuple-bogey 9 on the Par 4 18th at the Scottish Open in Loch Lomond. But on the Par 3 second, a well struck tee shot got me pin high 30 feet from the hole. A delicate downhiller trickled right into the hole. That got us back into the round.
Then on our final hole, Diamond 9, we drove the Tiger line (Par 4, 369 yards from the yellow tees) and landed short of the green-side bunker just 35 yards to the hole. With a good chip I landed on the green and unfortunately hit the flagstick with a bit too much force and ricocheted off. Almost an eagle!!! Sooooo close. Nonetheless, a two inch tap in for birdie.
Maybe that’s an omen that we should just play nine holes from now on?
