Three birdies in one round at Discovery Bay, Hong Kong

Updated 20 July, 2010 – updated distances from the hole.

Playing off the yellows today netted us three birdies on the Diamond / Jade courses at Discovery Bay, Hong Kong.

The first came on Diamond 3, a 385 yard Par 4. A drive leaving 150 yards to the back left hole called for a 6-iron, which landed 9 feet from the hole. A subtle right to lefter easily found the bottom of the cup.

We had to wait to the back 9 to get more action. On the first hole of the Jade Course, this Par 5 is normally played as a bogey hole. Two good shots got us to 110 yards to the pin. With some headwind, a pitching wedge (hit a bit thin) got us to 6 feet. An easy birdie.

Then immediately following on the Par 4 Jade 2, which we haven’t played for eons due to the hole being closed for the irrigation upgrade, our drive luckily caught the edge of the new cart path with 130 yards to the slightly uphill green. A 9-iron got us to 3 feet! An even easier birdie!

Don’t tell, but we were playing the TaylorMade Black, which R got as a birthday present a few years ago…
