OB Eagle @ Discovery Bay, Hong Kong
We hit our drive straight, but in the wrong direction on the Par 5 Ruby #3 (our 12th hole). Damn, out of bounds. Our provisional ball was hit solidly and a bit right. Having played from the forward blue tees, which were at the yellows today, our provisional shot cut the right dog leg and crossed the cart path leaving 180 yards to the center of the green. Failing to find the first ball, we had to play our provisional ball for our fourth shot. Using a 24° hybrid, we aimed to get somewhere near the green. We didn’t even pay attention to the pin position, which was in the back left. I darted straight as an arrow and landed just short of the green on the fringe. But the pin was in the back, 66 feet from where I landed! Our opponent was on in regulation and a par was inevitable. We weren’t thinking of halving the hole, and a bogey was already a good score with the OB. So we aimed about two feet right of the hole and gave it all we had. The putt looked like I was going to die, but I kept going and going. At the last 10 feet, the break kicked in and I turned left right into the hole! Wow, EAGLE! An OB Eagle though. An Eagle nonetheless. Our opponent got his par, but was speechless. Next time, we’ll have to try and keep the first ball in play and get a real Eagle.
Double Birdie @ Discovery Bay, Hong Kong
A good drive left us 90 yards to the pin. A well struck 52° got me to nine feet for a downhill left to right putt. Our opponent chipped in for Birdie and thought he’d won the hole. But our confident stroke tracked right into the hole for a half!
Strong headwinds left our perfect drive with 180 yards to the back pin. We didn’t hit our 24° hybrid flush and ended up with a big low cut. But it miraculously landed perfectly on the back tier of the green within nine feet. A fairly straight putt, aimed at the inside left edge went straight in the center of the cup.
Finally, a Birdie @ Discovery Bay, Hong Kong
Our game has been up and down lately. Mostly down. Then on Jade 7 at Discovery Bay, Hong Kong, our drive finally went straight and hugged the right side of the fairway on this Par 5. Using a 24° hybrid, we laid up to 140 yards to the flag. An 8-iron got me on the green but 27 feet from the hole. Luckily our fellow competitor showed us the right to left break and we knew where to aim. Perfect pace got me in the hole.
Zig Zag Birdie @ Discovery Bay, Hong Kong
We didn’t expect to birdie this hole (Jade 7 at Discovery Bay, Hong Kong). Our drive pulled left and barely kept on the fairway. The trees on this dog-leg left Par 5 were in our way, so we took a 6-iron and hit it to the right side rough. Left with 95 yards, we took our 52° wedge and maybe because of the wind, we were short. Just off the green with 21 feet to go, we decided to putt. Bang. Birdie!
Birdie on 180 Yard Par 3 @ Discovery Bay, Hong Kong
The hole was cut on the left on the Par 3 Diamond 8 today. Playing 180 yards, we took the 24° hybrid and aimed right at the flag. We were dead on target and I just missed the flag by less than a foot, stopping six feet past the hole. A straight forward left to right putt nailed the Birdie.
