Review – Pebble Beach…YEAH!
One course down in the courses that one has to play before they die. As part of the Pebble Beach Food & Wine event, this was the way to play Pebble. Format was Texas Scramble, so no individual birdies, but we did have a few ones as a team. As the event name suggests, food and wine were everywhere around the course, starting with a pre-round toast with 2002 Cristal champagne! We were lucky as one day earlier, upon our arrival to Pebble Beach, the wind was howling…and I mean howling. Fortunately it died down and the wind wasn’t that bad when we played. As anticipated, the scenery was spectacular…stunning!

This is our favorite place in San Francisco. It’s in the Ferry Building just across the street from Hotel Vitale in Embarcadero. So fresh! Opens at 11:30am Mondays to Fridays and 11:00am on weekends. There’s always a large crowd, so go there a bit earlier to grab a seat at the bar.

Review – French Laundry, Napa, USA
Posted by birdie in Food, North America, Review on October 22, 2007
We went there a while ago and back then didn’t have this blog in mind. So sorry, no pics of the food but you can look at the menu. There were only two choices, the tasting menu that we tried and another vegetarian version. This place is incredible. We were warned that their food is not as good as before…Thomas Keller has too many other interests, such as Per Se in New York…blah blah blah. Well, we still had to try it…provided we could get a booking. We ended up making a reservation online through Open Table two months in advance. I advise using this method as it is definitely much easier than getting through on the phone…especially when calling long distance.
We started with the “Oysters and Pearls”, a Sabayon of pearl tapioca with oysters and caviar! WOW! Every course then just got better and better. Hats off to Thomas Keller as this was our most memorable dinner. Not too fancy, fresh ingredients and everything just tasted perfect. Their collection of half bottle Napa wines was very impressive. We ended up getting two 375ml bottles, Araujo and Opus One, both from the 2003 vintage.
