2011 Year in Review

The ultimate highlight in 2011 was our Hole-in-One on September 11th. That alone is enough to remember 2011 by.

Nevertheless, there were other significant events worth mentioning. In February, we represented Hong Kong in the BMW Cup International World Final 2010 at the Lakes and Canyon Courses at The Blue Canyon Country Club in Phuket, Thailand.

We also had a guided tour of the highest hotel in the world – the Ritz Carlton Hong Kong. A nice welcome return to the luxury hotel scene in Hong Kong since its departure in 2008.

Our favorite new restaurant in 2011 would be Yardbird, where the chef, Matt Abergel, previously at Zuma Hong Kong takes chicken to a new level.

The sad passing of Steve Jobs shocked the world. May he rest in peace. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.

In October, we were invited to the final leg of the Shui On Land’s China Golf Challenge at Caesar’s Golf, Macau. A very unique event with Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, Rory McIlroy and China’s Liang Wen-chong playing 18 holes in seven cities in China over seven days.

Here are some of our favorite photos in 2011…enjoy.

Birdie – Canyon Course @ Blue Canyon, Phuket

Well, I’m back. On our final third round of the BMW Cup International World Final 2010 in Phuket, Thailand, we finally got our Birdie on the 16th hole of the Canyon Course. This short 323 yard Par 4 tempted us to take our 5-wood off the tee, but our caddie insisted to use the driver. And rightly so, our drive left us with just over 100 yards to the green. But a bit in-between clubs, we pushed it right and thought we were off the green. But fortunately, we were pin high to the back pin, but 21 feet from the hole! Hoping to just get it close for a two-putt par, our stroke tracked closer and closer to the hole and with my last breath just rolled into the hole. Again, we did not get a stroke on this hole, so another three Stableford points to the score. Yeah.

Birdie – Lakes Course @ Blue Canyon, Phuket

At the BMW Cup International World Final 2010 at The Blue Canyon Country Club in Phuket, Thailand, we were playing our third consecutive round – one practice round and this was the second day of competition. But this was our first time on the Lakes Course and on the 348 yard Par 4 6th, our drive made it to the fairway and our approach found the green leaving an easy (well not really that easy considering the way we were putting) putt for Birdie. This hole had a stroke index of 15, so we managed to add three Stableford points to our score. Go… Go… Go…

One more round to go on the Canyon Course tomorrow. Let’s see if I show up again and give R a surprise.
