Murphy’s Law strikes again
Posted by birdie in Miscellaneous on September 29, 2009
Ah, the old Murphy’s Law. R was eyeing the LaCie 2TB 2big Quadra 2-bay RAID drive a week ago at the DG store (local Apple dealer in Hong Kong) and was thinking of replacing the 1TB Synology network drive that was migrated from the Windows days. And low and behold…the network drive crashes and dies! Recovery was futile and all seemed gone. But luckily we made a backup earlier and figured we may have lost a month’s worth of stuff at most. Great excuse to buy that new 2TB drive. This time we are definitely running RAID 1 – redundant mirroring on two drives by saving the same data on both drives simultaneously. Effectively cuts the capacity in half to 1TB but much safer.
Since the blog was updated relatively recently, our posts weren’t affected too much. Only our pending writeups of the memorable Krug Room dinner at the Mandarin Oriental and a 5th Anniversary tasting menu at Harlan’s. We downloaded the photos onto the iMac and they were unfortunately saved on the external drive
Luckily, although the files were deleted from the camera’s SD card, it seems like we can recover most of the photos – with the help of Stellar Phoenix Mac Photo Recovery software downloaded from the Internet. So stay tuned and give us a bit of time to get things back to normal and we’ll have the reviews (and hopefully some nice pics) up very soon.
Thanks for you patience.
