Got an unexpected birdie on the Par 4 13th at Shek O today. Named “Village Green”, this hole is only 270 yards, but with a stream crossing the fairway in front of the green, a safe 180 yard 4 hybrid left just over 80 yards to the green. A well struck 56 degree wedge flew it past the hole and we almost thought it would go into the bunker behind the green. But the ball seemed to spin back towards the hole…BACKSPIN!!! Must be the Pro V1. It spun back to within 6 feet from the hole…pin high! Not quite tap in range, but we made it nonetheless. But we forgot to bring another ball and had to tee off with the Birdie ball on the 14th. And there was water across the fairway again! Can’t loose this one, so had to focus and make sure that we kept dry. Luckily we passed the stream and landed in the rough…still in play. Now let’s see if we can repeat that backspin…
