What a day. After a steady front nine on the Ruby/Jade courses in Discovery Bay, Hong Kong, we were hoping to end our Birdie drought soon. Lo and behold, on the 180 yard Par 3 Jade #3, our 4-hybrid (Titleist 910H 24°) knocked me slightly left of the flag and heading towards the center pin. “Be the club” R shouted and after landing about 10 feet below the hole, one hop and a skip later, I disappeared!!! A HOLE-IN-ONE!!! WOW, what an amazing feeling. Our regular golf buddies L and A were there to give high fives with great enthusiasm in anticipation of the feast to follow. Anyway, that ended the drought with a bang.
A few holes later, on Jade #8, another Par 3, we hit the 4-hybrid again and was left with a 21 footer for Birdie. Taking a bit more of the right to left break (we’ve been under reading breaks all day) for the uphill putt got me home perfectly.
This must have been our day, as on the final hole, Jade #9, our drive left us with 160 yards to the back pin. A smooth 5-iron got me to the center of the green for a 16 foot uphill putt. Fortunately, our fellow competitor landed behind our exact line! Paying real close attention to the break, we found the same line for Birdie #2.
Not bad for a back nine one under par for a total of 75 (+4).

Please note that our great enthusiasm is in no disrespect to the tragic events that occurred 10 years ago in the United States on this very day. Our prayers go out to everyone who were affected by those criminal acts.
