We got a bit confused about this one. We were recommended to try Roberts at Pepper Tree and upon searching for it on the web, we found Roberts Restaurant instead, but didn’t think otherwise and made dinner reservations. Then we noticed that their names were different and their websites had vastly contrasting styles. Nevertheless, we decided to go to Roberts at Pepper Tree for lunch. We passed by the Pepper Tree Wines, so we were at the right place. But upon arriving at the front door, the logo and everything was Roberts Restaurant. Upon checking their phone numbers, we confirmed them to be the same place. Anyway, since we were here, we thought that we might as well enjoy it.

This restaurant in Hunter Valley, Australia was recommended by our friends and we were excited to try it. But once we drove up Hungerford Hill Winery, where it is located, we immediately realized that we had been here before! And from our experience, we knew we would not be disappointed.

Before Pier Restaurant, Tetsuya’s was the restaurant on our must visit list for Sydney. In fact our whole Australian trip’s schedule was planned around our Tuesday dinner booking here. Arriving at the restaurant, we immediately feel the strong Japanese influence from chef / owner Tetsuya Wakuda’s roots.

It was Chinese New Year (初一) and we tried to book Tetsuya’s, but could only get a table the day after, so we tried Pier Restaurant…with no regrets. Since it was the first dinner to celebrate the Year of the Dragon, we started off with a glass of Laurent-Perrier Rosé immediately after sitting down at the restaurant.
